THE BEAUTIFUL SOCIAL RESEARCH COLLABORATIVE

This video highlights the organization that Lexi worked with throughout her college career. (She worked with a local nonprofit as a class member, and went on to become the managing research fellow for two groups and their projects.)

Life After Life is an organization and support group facilitated by a group of formerly incarcerated individuals who were sentenced as juveniles to life in prison without parole. The organization aims to support likewise returning citizens by providing them with a way to share their stories to create social change.

Life After Life hopes to provide returning citizens with this necessary support so that they may have a true second chance at life; employment, housing, and mental health support are only some of the areas in which they hope to support returning citizens.

Our work with Life After Life included helping the group design a website in order to showcase their stories. In addition, we ran a workshop in which we collaborated with the group to teach them about effective digital citizenship, web design, digital aesthetics, and more.

COMPARATIVE MEDIA ANALYSIS: CHENOA MANOR

Chenoa Manor, an animal sanctuary located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, takes in animals who were previously harmed by abuse, factory farming, hoarding situations, or even lab experiments. The Manor gives these animals a home to recover and live out their lives in a dignified way. The Manor is completely volunteer-run, and has no paid staff - making outside donations and support extremely important.

My work with Chenoa Manor involved a large-scale fundraiser in order to support their sanctuary during the COVID pandemic shutdown, when a significant number of their donors and volunteers were unable to continue their support. I acted as a liaison between the Manor and our group of consultants in addition to approving all social media posts and fundraising posts.

Through social media alone, the group was able to help Chenoa Manor raise about $15,000 dollars through their GoFundMe page. As you will see in the linked case study (pictured), we also designed T-shirts and social media Venmo boards to encourage both donations and general awareness of the Manor’s mission.

CASE STUDY #2: INTERNEWS SOUTH SUDAN

Internews is a global non-profit that promotes the integrity of news information by supporting independent news organizations in over 100 countries. By supporting independent news stations, radios, and training on-ground journalists, Internews changes lives through access to information.

My work with Internews was directly with their branch in South Sudan. I acted as a liaison between my group and the Internews team, and I also helped my group create social media posts, blogs, and digital strategies for the branch in hopes to create content for their new website.

Our project with Internews South Sudan was adapted frequently in order to coordinate with Internews HQ, but that did not stop us from making an impact with this community partner. In the end, we were able to work with the South Sudan office to create digital strategies, social media schedules, and promote their branch. Most importantly, we worked with the South Sudan branch to showcase the “living legacy” of the work they have done over the last decade in South Sudan.
